Aloha, Bill. Godspeed.

Rox’s dad, Bill Benton, lost his 15 year battle with 5 different cancers last night. He quietly and peacefully slipped away in his Florida home with his wonderful wife, Blanche, and two of his four daughters, Barbara and Judy, by his side.

I feel honored to have gotten to know him over the past 8 years and I will dearly miss our discussions and his stories over glasses of his favorite wine.

Malama Maui (34 photos)

We are working with the Maui Visitors Bureau (http://www.visitmaui.com) to help promote Maui's innovative and sustainable practices. From the eco-friendly sailing canoe adventures on the beach, all the way to the top of the mountains where Maui Cattle Company herds roam and feed only on the grasses of the Maui Mountains. Maui is leading the way in it's use of New Media and Social Networks in order to tell the world why Maui is so unique in it's approach to conservation and preservation of Hawaii's native culture and Aina (land).

There's always lots of lizards and geckos scurrying about outside the house here in Hawaii. But this little guy "owns" the shower and chases off any intruders. On this day, he was feeling especially brave and let me get within a few inches but my camera.

Abstract Photographs (40 photos)

This entire set was my first attempt at abstract photography and ICM (intentional camera movement). First one happened by accident but then I ran around the house for about 45 minutes shooting over 500 photographs while trying different types of camera settings and different ways of moving the camera. With most of these I used the camera as if it were a paintbrush. That's especially true of the spiky yellow light ones in the center of the set. All photographys in this Gallery were created entirely in-camera. No Photoshop, digital manipulation, or post-processing of any kind was used in the creation of these photographs.

Thanksgiving, 2009, in Kansas (17 photos)

Rox and I spent a few days with my family in Kansas City over the Thanksgiving weekend. I actually didn't take a lot of pics except one afternoon when my sister, Danielle (herself a budding photographer) asked me to shoot a few of her and her family at a nearby park. I don't consider myself a photographer but we got a few fun pics and had fun playing in the sunny but brisk November weather.

This Social Media Club Hawaii event centered around Flickr. How, Why, and how best to use it for your personal, professional, and event photographs. Somewhat ironic that I, as a complete newbie to photography, was the "official photographer" for this event... This is the first public event I've shot with our new Canon T1i. I've never used a SLR camera before, only the little point-n-click pocket cameras. I have a LOT to learn about how to capture moving people at events while using the Manual setting and not using flash... Also, if you see someone in a photo who is not tagged, please do so.

Beach Shoot with @VuBui (14 photos)

@RoxanneDarling and I did a short photo shoot with @VuBui on Lanikai beach while he was on Oahu at the end of September, 2009. We just got a Canon T1i, my first real camera, a few weeks before he arrived and these are some of the first pics I took with the camera "behind the scenes" as he shot Rox. Still trying to figure out how exposure, F-stops, film speed, and shutter speed work together as you can tell from some of the photos. All photos are straight from the camera. I don't touch them in iPhoto or Photoshop.

Overnight Embark on the Navy USS Nimitz (CVN 68) Aircraft Carrier (7 photos)

NOTE: Most of our photos are posted on Roxanne's USS Nimitz Set Roxanne Darling (@roxannedarling on Twitter), I, and 14 other "Distinguished Visitors (DVs) from Hawaii had the priviledge and honor of spending almost 24 hours aboard the US Navy aircraft carrier, USS Nimitz as she ran training operations off the southern coast of the Big Island, Hawaii.

I met Andrew "Pav" Pavitt last year at SxSW in Vegas. He was traveling across the US (he's Aussie) and was going to be staying in a hostel in Albuquerque for 3-4 days. I told him that he should instead stay in Santa Fe (60 miles North) and that I had an empty Loft just sitting there wanting someone to visit. I then found out he is an excellent architectural photographer. He was kind enough to take these photos of my Loft in Sanfa Fe. Now I'm putting it up for sale. Ireland and London 2006 (80 photos)

In April I flew from Santa Fe to Dublin, Ireland to visit, Beth, my ex-wife. She had been living there for 3 years and was preparing to move back to the States so I went to visit before she did. We also went to London for 3 days and I completely fell in love with London.
