Welcome to Maui Open Studios!

Last night was the opening for the first-ever Maui Open Studios tour, held at the Maui Tropical Plantation. Created by the amazing San Francisco artist and former Maui resident Carolyn Quan, it spans three weekends and includes over 100 artists this year. Modeled after “open studio” tours in other cities, #MauiOS (the Twitter tag we are using) is designed to let the public get up close and personal with the artists in their studio environments, as the work is being created. Carolyn has done an incredible job of pulling all this together. We are so grateful to her efforts on our behalf.

Mahalo to our great friend and photographer Peter Liu of Kaiscapes, who took this picture of us. Plus these special Maui friends who joined us: Dania Katz, Kathy Becklin, Jalove, Liza Pierce and her husband Bradley, and Melanie Boudar of Sweet Paradise Chocolatier.

Carolyn estimated over 1000 people attended the opening, and we can attest to being shoulder-to-shoulder for over three hours nonstop! It was so exciting to see Shane’s art being so well-received and to meet so many of the Maui artists. What a community! Today we toured many of the artist studios in Lahaina, Kihei, and Wailea and I was personally moved by how warm and friendly everyone was, in addition to being so incredibly talented!

Join Us February 12 & 13

Our open studio is next weekend, Feb 12 & 13, and will be at the Pauwela Cannery in Haiku. You are invited to join us! We will have lots of art, live demos, including a pigment ink transfer process that Shane is exploring. It is a modern update to the polaroid emulsion process. Here are a few more details: Location: 375 W. Kuiaha Rd #10, Haiku, HI 86708 (Map Link) Time: 10 am - 6 pm Sat & Sun Activities: Live demos, refreshments, art for sale with special #MauiOS pricing, and plenty of free consultation about photography, digital technology, the merging of art and tech, and plenty of social media!

Are you a designer or business owner, especially hotel or spa?

As we are new to Maui, we have mailed invitations to many of the local hotels and designers. Many people tell us that Shane’s images are perfect for contemporary home and office design, spas, restaurants, B&Bs, and hotels. We look forward to meeting you and showing you how we can customize a piece of work to suit your space perfectly.
